Who we help

US & UK tax specialists for high-net-worth individuals

High-net-worth individuals with US and UK connections have more to report than most: foreign accounts, investments, property and business interests on both sides. We prepare the returns and disclosures that cover all of it.

Tax Returns for High-Net-Worth Individuals

High-net-worth individuals face unique reporting challenges when their assets sit across the US and UK. From foreign account disclosures to property held through companies or trusts and the taxation of investments, almost every holding has to be reported on both sides.

We prepare your US and UK returns together, so foreign tax credits and treaty relief are claimed on the right return and every disclosure, from FBAR and Form 8938 to PFIC reporting on Form 8621, is complete. Our tax accountants work closely with you to understand what you hold and where, and report it accurately to both the IRS and HMRC.

Whether you're managing investments, real estate, business interests, or international income, we deliver accurate, consistent filings in both jurisdictions, on time every year.

How an engagement runs

Two authorities, one file. Here is what working together actually looks like.

  1. Review

We look at both sides together: what you file, where, and what has already been filed or missed.

  2. Position

We set out the treaty position and reliefs that apply to you, with the numbers behind each option.

  3. File

We prepare and submit to the IRS and HMRC, keeping the two sets of filings consistent with each other.

  4. Keep current

Two tax calendars means deadlines all year. We track them and tell you before they arrive.

Questions we are asked most

The ones that come up in almost every first conversation with this group.

Many UK funds and investment trusts are treated as passive foreign investment companies, which carries punitive tax treatment and heavy reporting. It is one of the most common and most expensive surprises for Americans investing through UK platforms, and each fund needs its own Form 8621 filed with the return.

The gain is reportable to the IRS even where UK private residence relief applies, and the US does not mirror that relief. Currency movement between purchase and sale also affects the US gain, which can create US tax on a property that made little or nothing in sterling terms.

The UK regime for non-domiciled taxpayers has changed substantially, and arrangements that worked historically may now produce a worse result. If your UK returns still rely on the old rules, the filing position has to be checked against the current ones rather than assumed to hold.

Both countries can tax the same estate, and their thresholds and reliefs differ sharply. There is a separate US-UK estate tax treaty from the income tax one. Relief from double tax is claimed on the estate returns themselves, so both have to be prepared with that treaty in view.

Yes, but what has to be reported depends on where you are resident, what you hold, and which wrapper it sits in. The usual problem is a portfolio built sensibly for one system that quietly creates reporting or penal treatment in the other.
