US tax services for Americans in the UK

Looking for reliable US tax accountants in London? As specialist US UK Tax Experts, we provide comprehensive US tax services in the UK, including IRS compliance, FATCA and FBAR reporting, and international tax filings. Whether you are a US citizen living in the UK, a Green Card holder, or a non-resident with US income, our experts ensure your returns are accurate, compliant, and make full use of the reliefs in the US-UK tax treaty.

Why It's Important to Choose Specialist US & UK Tax Experts

When it comes to managing US tax services in the UK, working with general accountants is rarely enough. The US and UK tax systems are highly complex, with very different rules, reporting standards, and filing deadlines. Without the right expertise, it's easy to make mistakes that lead to unnecessary tax bills, double taxation, or even penalties from the IRS and HMRC.

By choosing specialist US UK tax experts in London, you gain peace of mind knowing your tax affairs are handled by professionals who understand both jurisdictions inside out. We coordinate IRS compliance, FATCA and FBAR reporting, double taxation relief, and treaty claims to ensure your filings are correct and the same income is not taxed twice.

Cross-border taxation is not a one-size-fits-all matter. Each client has unique circumstances, and only dedicated specialists can deliver the specialist filing needed to remain compliant and avoid penalties year after year.

How an engagement runs

Two authorities, one file. Here is what working together actually looks like.

  1. Review

We look at both sides together: what you file, where, and what has already been filed or missed.

  2. Position

We set out the treaty position and reliefs that apply to you, with the numbers behind each option.

  3. File

We prepare and submit to the IRS and HMRC, keeping the two sets of filings consistent with each other.

  4. Keep current

Two tax calendars means deadlines all year. We track them and tell you before they arrive.

Questions we are asked most

The ones that come up in almost every first conversation about this.

Often yes. The filing thresholds are low, and they are lower again if you are married filing separately, which many people abroad are. Information returns such as the FBAR have their own separate triggers regardless of income.

It depends on your income and where you live. The exclusion suits lower tax jurisdictions; credits usually work better in the UK, where rates are often higher than US ones. Switching between them has consequences, so it is a decision worth making deliberately.

Possibly. Some states release you when you move abroad; others take the view that you remain resident until you demonstrate otherwise. Which state you left matters a great deal here.

FBAR reports foreign accounts to FinCEN once the combined balance passes $10,000. FATCA reports foreign assets to the IRS on Form 8938, at higher thresholds that vary by filing status and where you live. Many people have to do both, and the forms are not interchangeable.

There is an exit tax regime for people above certain wealth and income thresholds, and it is assessed on a deemed sale of worldwide assets. You also need to be compliant for the preceding five years to certify properly. Both points are much easier to address before you start.
