US and UK Tax Accountants for Sports Professionals
From professional athletes to sports coaches and trainers, we provide specialized tax and accounting services for sports professionals managing complex income streams.
Tax Experts for Sports Professionals
Professional athletes and sports workers earn income through salaries, sponsorships, image rights, appearance fees, and merchandise. Each has different tax treatment, and many athletes work internationally, creating additional tax complications.
We prepare US and UK returns that report each type of income correctly, apply the international tax treaties that cover athletes competing abroad, and claim the deductions available to sports professionals.
Whether you're a footballer, golfer, tennis player, or sports coach, we make sure your records are properly organised and your returns are accurate and filed on time.

What the sector looks like right now, and why cross-border position matters more than it used to.

Reporting Sports Professional Income Across Borders
Sports professionals earn from multiple income streams, including salaries, endorsements, appearance fees, and image rights. Accurate reporting of each one is essential for correct tax returns and compliance.
We prepare and file tax returns for athletes and sports professionals, reporting contract salaries, endorsement deals, image rights, and investment income, and claiming foreign tax credits so the same income is not taxed twice.
Our team prepares accurate returns at every stage of a sports career, claiming the deductions you are entitled to and making sure every revenue stream and expense category is reported correctly.

International Tax Filing for Global Athletes
Competing internationally creates unique tax obligations across multiple jurisdictions. Meeting them requires accurate, timely filing and deep cross-border expertise.
We prepare and file the tax returns for sports professionals who compete internationally, reporting tournament income, appearance fees, endorsement deals and sponsorship income from global markets, ensuring compliance with both US and UK tax authorities.
Our tax accountants credit tax withheld overseas and claim treaty relief on the right return, so the same income is not taxed twice, and keep your reporting consistent across all territories where you compete and earn income.
What we handle for you
The filings this sector needs most, on both sides of the Atlantic.
Questions this sector asks first
The general position on each. What applies to you depends on where you live, where the work is done and who pays.
The country where you compete. The US-UK treaty lets each country tax income from sporting activity performed there unless gross receipts for the year are $20,000 or less. Your home country taxes the same income and gives credit for the tax paid abroad.
Partly. The UK taxes a non-resident sportsperson on the share of worldwide endorsement income that relates to UK performance, usually worked out from the number of days spent training and competing here. That share goes on a UK return, and the tax is claimed as a credit at home.
Many do. States with an income tax apportion a visiting athlete's income by the number of duty days worked in the state, which can mean a separate non-resident return for each state played in. These returns are filed alongside the federal one.
It depends on who owns the rights and who is paid. Income paid to you goes on your personal return. Income paid to a company is reported by the company, and HMRC and the IRS both look at whether the payment is really for image rights or for playing. Whatever the arrangement, both returns must describe it the same way.
